Each year the Australian Father’s Day Council and The Shepherd center select a prominent father who has demonstrated support, guidance and love to his children or other children through his occupied role or family life to take out the prestigious Australian Father of the Year Award. The range of skills and breadth of experience among our staff encompassing Clinical, Communications and Fundraising and Encourage enables The Shepherd center to yield world class programs to children and families, hoist strong support and awareness, and continue to deliver extraordinary services. Clinical program staff are at the front line of our work. As The Shepherd center must fund the majority of its programs and services through fund raising, these roles are vital for the organization to remain its work. In 2006, Chris lades experienced two meaningful life changes in partnership with his family, he took over Melissa Confectionery and in the same year, Chris and his wife welcomed their second child, Alexander, who was born with profound hearing loss. The Shepherd center is committed to excellence in our work towards our vision of every child with hearing loss achieving the superior spoken language they are capable of, so they can fulfill their full potential in the world. The Board of Patrons was established by the Board of Directors to donate The Shepherd center accesses to a group of individuals who would publicly approve the work of the center and present advice on specific issues. The Charter of the Board of Patrons is: To help and support the labor of The Shepherd center through the endorsement of the center in the general community, with potential benefactors and with government. The Shepherd center works with a number of leading organizations in the hearing loss sector. We have preschools at both our Liverpool and Wollongong centers which present places for both children with hearing loss and without. For families in country areas, Tasmania or overseas, our rural and secluded program provides an ideal way to access to our services. We device families through our five centers in MSW, the ACT and Tasmania, as well as international families through our teleintervention service. We also offer outreach specialist services to families who are unable to attend our centers in person as they may live in rural and secluded areas of Australia or be based overseas. We have five centers located around MSW and the ACT however many of our families (particularly those in regional locations and from overseas), access our services through our popular Teleintervention Program. Our preschools are unique in that they offer places for children with hearing loss and without offering a unique opportunity for children with and without hearing loss to combine and learn from each other. A caring Preschool environment for children with or without hearing loss available at Liverpool and Wollongong. Our Preschool Programs give small, language wealthy environments to promote children both with and without hearing loss in an integrated environment. For children with hearing loss, schools and Preschools can be noisy and thus solid learning environments. All activities are based on The Premature Years learning framework and have been designed to thrive children’s social, intellectual, emotional and physical skills in an enjoyable learning environment. Our Preschool Programs are currently run from our Liverpool and Wollongong centers, with Preschool staff who have years of experience and training occupied with children with and without hearing loss. Our rural and isolated programs bear services and promote to rural and international families. The Shepherd center currently offers two specialist outreach programs Residential Workshop and Teleintervention Program for families who are unable to visit our five centers in person. The five day intensive workshop offers short courses for parents and professionals, and provides educational and feasible information on how to aid children flourish their listening, language and social skills. The Teleintervention Program is available to all families, but especially to families living in rural and distant regions of Australia, or who live overseas. Families who attend the Residential Workshop program, as well as the Teleintervention Program, have access to services including audiology, speech therapy, child and family counseling, group programs and facetoface discussions about managing and living with hearing loss. For families from regional areas, and their Hearing Encourage Teachers and Health Professionals, our residential workshops are internationally renowned for providing educational and possible information on developing listening and spoken language in children with hearing loss. Alternatively, if you are living in a regional area or know someone live in a regional area with a kid with hearing loss, let them know about our upcoming workshops. The workshops are unfold to fresh families, including those who have never previously been enrolled at any of our centers families based in rural and remote regions unable to attend our five MSW and ACT centers, or families connected with our teleintervention program.
