What you should know about SmithS Hill High School
Promoting excellence in a spirit of believe and cooperation. Smith's Hill Tall School has had something of a chequered former with its origins dating back to 1905, when it was first opened. In this year a post primary vocational educational course of two years duration for non academic students was established and Wollongong Public School offered it in the Domestic Sciences. In 1911, the Inferior courses were reconstructed with students sitting for the Intermediate Certificate behind two years and then the Leaving Certificate behind another two years study. Five years later in 1916, the offer A block was constructed and named Wollongong High School. During the 1970's plans were underway to change shahs into a comprehensive, coeducational Lofty School and in 1979 the school was renamed Smith's Hill High School. In more recent years' entry to HHS has become considerably more competitive and students travel from as far afield as Nora, Helensburgh and the Highlands to attend the school.
The school also conducts camps for various years throughout the school year. All interested students are encouraged to receive piece in this Scheme. Information about these costs are supplied to interested students and parents. There is the option to audition for either the stage or the orchestra. Opportunities are provided for students to compete at a variety of levels in sport at Smith's Hill Lofty School. Scholarships are awarded to students to study to be primary and lofty school teachers. The participation, enjoyment and skill development of our students is the cornerstone of the school sport physical activity program.
