It was our annual VIP night but it was also a bit of a farewell for our Flanders Street Factory (not safe what's going on? Ample of young, impaired and inbetweens rocked up for snags, stubbier and a tale or two. John is still around too if you want to wish him all the superior for his well earned retirement. Our team (past and present) and our customers are the legends who make Skippy what it is, so we wanted to share a scanty pics of some of the crew that turned up to our VIP night. It's the final of an era, but also the first of a fresh chapter for Skippy Surfboards. When a young Johnny Skippy founded Skippy Surfboards in 1963, he could have never imagined how iconic the brand would become. But now it is time for Skippy, one of the pioneers of surf, to enter a healthy earned retirement, handing over the reigns to his son Josh. We plan to reopen a board store late2017, but also to create a greater presence online. Our legacy of looking after the local surfing community with hand shaped boards and worn school service will continue. Surfboards made by Skippy will everlasting be handcrafted to keep the purity of the company and what we have been known for over the former half century. However, we will also be engaging in a side project division of the company that has more futuristic surf design and construction with the use of different foam densities, stringer construction, glassing techniques, UV resins, experimental EPA and epoxy design and CBC shaping. Skippy Surfboards will be begin every day until the last of the year (except Christmas Day). You might even catch John on the factory floor, sharing a scanty of his epic tales.
