Our staff are at the center of everything we do. An Annual Report is much more than just a legal obligation for Mission Australia. It’s a way of being accountable to our supporters, the people we help and the wider community. With a history of over 150 years of helping Australians in need, Mission Australian is an lasting presence in the fabric of Australian life. Our journey so far has been shaped by our Christian base and our values of compassion, integrity, respect, tolerance and celebration. Our story began in 1859 with the Brisbane Town and Country Mission responding to community needs at the grassroots level. For decades these missions met immediate needs, big-hearted out food and clothing. It’s an ethos that’s bound us together for more than 150 years, and remains at the heart of our labor today. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was ailing and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me honest as you did to one of the least of these you did it to me. Founding Purpose 'Inspired by Jesus Christ, Mission Australia exists to face human need and to spread the knowledge of the love of God'. Mission Australia believes every person in Australia should have access to safe and secure housing. Single parent families, in particular, spend the maximum on housing as a percentage of their weekly vulgar income. People become homeless for many reasons, including unemployment, mental health issues, financial troubles, problems with drugs, alcohol or gambling or the loss of a job or loved one.
