The Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts (Java) is actively engaged in cultivating and promoting outstanding contemporary visual art. Java is a notforprofit organization, a vibrant artist run initiative that has a membership of professional artists and arts workers primarily residing in the Illawarra region. Java provides its members with group exhibitions, social networking and professional development opportunities and continues to make a important contribution to Australia’s contemporary art scene. Java is an organization of contemporary visual artists practicing in a professional manner. Primarily the panel will receive into account the quality and contemporary nature of the applicant’s work, together with the professional and rigorous approach the applicant demonstrates regarding their work. While many members do have at minimum 5 years exhibition history it is not required if you do not have this history but can demonstrate a proactive, professional approach to your practice together with a mighty rationale for your practice, this will be taken into account. Java is notforprofit, artist run initiative designed to be a encourage network that cultivates and promotes Illawarra’s contemporary visual arts and artists. Java nominees will have apropos background and experience (in art making, curating, writing, etc). Works explored and interpreted the local environment with based on the concept of Habitat artifact. Line of Sight also signifies the artists unique viewpoint and makes references to geography, orientation, and history of use of perspective within art making. As Java grows, we periodically publish a yearbook.
